Winterization Program 2023-2024 Season

Thank you for considering Chesapeake Whalertowne for your boat’s winterization needs.

As the seasons change, cold weather can affect your boat’s condition and operation.  Boat winterization helps protect your boat’s engine and mechanical systems from the effects of inclement weather and temperature changes.  While some winterization tasks are easy to do yourself, you might want to consider professional boat winterization.  Chesapeake Whalertowne’s Winterization Service ensures optimal protection from harsh wind, freezing rain, snow, ice, and extreme temperature changes.

This is what we do for you, our customers and Whalertowne family members, as part of the proper winterization of your boat…

  • Flush you pumps with anti-freeze to ensure they are protected from damaging ice expansion.
  • Provide anti-freeze to your Black Water (sewage) System
  • Complete a check of your batteries, and clean and disconnect for storage. This is required if storing at Whalertowne.
  • Add fuel stabilizer and Ethanol treatment to fuel and replace filters on engine.Filter cost and quantity required varies with both boat and engine size.
  • Service lower unit to ensure that the lower unit does not contain any contaminants such as water, metal, etc.We change the lower unit lubricant, remove the propeller and re-grease the shaft as well as inspect the rear oil seal.
  • Inspect propeller and running gear.If your propeller needs to be reconditioned this will be done at an additional charge.
  • Due to electrolysis we will inspect and replace oxidized zincs as necessary.
  • We will run a diagnostic check with the CDS (Computer Diagnostic System) on all digital (4 Stroke, Verado and OptiMax) engines and change all filters, spark plugs (if necessary) along with decarbonizing the engine. We will advise you at this time if the CDS shows any shortcomings.
  • Lubricate external steering shaft, tilt tube and other moving parts with Mercury lubricant and spray engine with corrosion guard to help prevent corrosion.
  • We apply spray fogging oil while engine is running through intake ports to protect internal parts (pistons, rings and bearings) per manufacturer’s recommendations.OptiMax and Verado require the removing of spark plugs and injecting fogging oil directly into cylinders.
  • The winterization of your engine does not guarantee that problems will not occur, but, it is the best prevention available. We will restart your engine at the time of Spring Commissioning upon request for an additional service fee.
In addition to the above, we will inspect and care for you boat as if it was our own.  We will check and repair as needed electrical system and water system(s).  There may be additional labor and parts charges for these services.  Owners will be contacted before any repairs, that are not part of winterization practices, are performed.

Here is what you should do to prepare for winterization with Chesapeake Whalertowne…
