Recommissioning Program 2024 Season

Thank you for considering Chesapeake Whalertowne for your boat’s winterization needs.

As warmer weather moves in, we all start to think about spending the day on the water.  Boat owners often get excited and quickly launch their boats without proper care to prepare them for the season.  While some recommissioning tasks are easy to do yourself, you might want to consider having a professional inspect and prepare your boat for the season.  Chesapeake Whalertowne’s boat Recommissioning Program helps ensure your boat’s engine and mechanical systems are well prepared and ready for the boating season.

This is what we do for you, our customers and Whalertowne family members, as part of the proper winterization of your boat…

  • Remove all winter coverings and recycle shrink wrap as appropriate.
  • Restart and run your engines to operating temperatures.
  • Reconnect and complete a check of your batteries.
  • Inspect all cables and hoses.
  • Check all fluid and oil levels refilling as needed.
  • Inspect propeller and running gear.  If your propeller needs to be reconditioned this will be done at an additional charge.
  • Inspect and replace oxidized zincs as necessary.
  • We will run a diagnostic check with Mercury’s G3 computer diagnostic system on all digital (4-Stroke, Verado and OptiMax) engines and change all filters, spark plugs (if necessary) along with decarbonizing the engine.  We will advise you at this time if the G3 system shows any shortcomings.
  • Lubricate external steering shaft, tilt tube, and other moving parts with Mercury lubricant and spray engine with corrosion guard to help prevent corrosion.
  • Inspect anti-fouling paint and provide estimates for coating as needed.
  • Check your boat’s exterior for any damage or deformities that could have occurred over the winter.
In addition to the above, we will inspect and care for your boat as if it was our own.  We will check and repair as needed electrical system and water system(s).  There may be additional labor and parts charges for these services.  Owners will be contacted before any repairs, that are not part of winterization practices, are performed.  While the recommissioning of your boat and engine does not guarantee that problems will not occur, it is the best way to start the boating season with confidence.

Here is what you should do to prepare for Recommissioning with Chesapeake Whalertowne…

  • Schedule your Recommissioning service and boat delivery/pick-up early in the winter.  Coordinating our transport and mechanical service with your schedule takes time.  Reserving your delivery/pick-up time early ensures we can exceed your expectations.
  • Please let us know if there were any mechanical issues you would like addressed on your boat before you receive it.  Spring is our busiest time of year and service lead times can be longer than normal
  • Please review the condition and serviceability of your safety equipment (i.e. check expiration dates).  We have replacements available in our parts department.  SAFETY FIRST!
  • Prepare your lift and/or trailer to receive your boat.  These are the last things people think of, but they can put a stop to your plans quickly. Thank you again for trusting
